Meet the Mushers

Kara Grangoth

Kara Grangoth

I grew up in Minnesota. I followed in my two older sister’s foot steps and started dog sledding in 2015.  Shortly after my sisters and I started our own kennel of Alaskan Huskies, called True North Sled Dogs.  In 2020, I took sole ownership of the kennel.  I continue to raise, train and race Alaskan Huskies.

I am excited to spend the season doing what the dogs and I love to do. Where better to run dogs, than in Alaska?!

Gabriel Alvarez – Camp Manager

Gabriel Alvarez – Camp Manager

Hi, I’m Gabriel Alvarez — Sheep Creek Manager, dog musher, whitewater raft guide, and all-around outdoors guy. I’ve spent every winter in Moran since I started at Sheep Creek, running dogs, wrangling, and sharing the wild with awesome people. I graduated from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, and somewhere along the way, I fell in love with mushing. My dream? To race in the Iditarod one day. Until then, you’ll find me on the trail, on the river, or swapping stories by the fire.

I was born in Oklahoma, but I didn’t like the heat much down south. So when I was given an opportunity to work on the Denver glacier in Skagway, it was an obvious choice. Then, during this winter I learned to mush from Clayton Perry in the Montana mountains…

Abigail Wright

Abigail Wright

My name is Abigail Wright, and I am originally from Northern Utah. Over the past several years, I have spent much of my time living and working in Alaska, where I’ve pursued my passion for dog mushing. This past winter, I raced out of a kennel in Willow, Alaska. I am a certified veterinary technician with a strong commitment to the health and well-being of the dogs I work with. Through mushing, I have had the privilege of living and traveling in some of the most beautiful and remote places—experiences made possible by these incredible dogs.

Kristi Paz

Kristi Paz

I’m originally from a small town in Georgia, and I found my way into dogsledding while working in Bridge-Teton National Forest in Moran, Wyoming. Originally working somewhere else, I quickly found myself drawn to the dog team and kennel there. After returning for a second season, I fully embraced the opportunity to be involved. What started out as only volunteering, quickly turned into running sleds and managing a team of 14 dogs. I fell in love with the responsibility, dedication, and art of working with a dog team. The experience has taught me invaluable lessons in teamwork, trust, and endurance. Building relationships with each dog and having continuous learning opportunities, has been the most rewarding part of the job. Learning their trust is something I deeply value as well.

Outside of mushing, I enjoy reading, listening to music, and spending time outdoors. Looking ahead, my goal is to continue gaining experience and developing my skills with the hope of one day competing in a race.
